Mallorca rain emergency ends after 178 incidents
Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, has logged 178 incidents during the rains: its emergency ends on Thursday as conditions improve. Across the islands, the 112 Emergency Coordination Centre handled 424 incidents. The Balearic Government’s Directorate-General for Emergencies and the Interior says the emergency has also ended on Eivissa and Formentera.
The directorate says Eivissa and Formentera were the worst affected islands. Emergency services handled 170 incidents on Eivissa and 68 on Formentera, compared with eight on Menorca.
The Inunbal emergency plan reached operational level 2 on Mallorca, Eivissa and Formentera — its third level of activation. Mallorca dropped to level 0 by Tuesday lunchtime. The effects of the rain kept Eivissa and Formentera at a higher level for longer: both moved from level 2 to level 1 on Wednesday. Better weather and improving conditions allowed the plan to move into recovery and a return to normal on Thursday.
The Military Emergency Unit deployed to Eivissa and Formentera on Saturday. Its teams left Formentera on Sunday afternoon and finished their work on Eivissa on Wednesday morning, after three days there.
