Mallorca remains a leading summer destination for Spanish travellers

Mallorca remains among the leading summer destinations for Spanish travellers, according to tour operator Soltour’s seasonal booking analysis released in Madrid on 19 August. The Balearic island shares that position with Menorca, Tenerife and Gran Canaria, while the company reports rising interest in alternative destinations and holidays combining city breaks with beach stays.

Soltour said Riviera Maya, Punta Cana, Samaná and the island of Sal in Cabo Verde also account for a substantial share of summer demand. Bookings for these destinations, as well as the Balearic and Canary Islands, are supported by the appeal of all-inclusive holidays.

Alternative destinations and combined holidays

Albania, Montenegro, Madeira and the Algarve are attracting greater interest from Spanish travellers, Soltour said. Visitors to these destinations are seeking local culture, natural settings and more authentic experiences.

The operator also identified growing demand for touring holidays and combined trips. These itineraries pair cultural visits in cities with time at the beach.

Early planners and late bookers

Soltour found a split between customers who arrange holidays months ahead and those who decide only weeks or days before departure. Advance planning is particularly common for long-haul trips and more complex touring itineraries, where travellers seek to secure availability.

The mix of booking habits is sustaining reservations for August and September. Soltour commercial director Luis Santos said established destinations remain a reliable choice, while interest is increasing in trips that bring together urban culture and seaside relaxation.
