Marc Pons gets second spot on PSIB Congress list
On the Balearic island of Menorca, the local socialists put Marc Pons forward for second place on the PSIB’s list for Spain’s Congress: party leader Francina Armengol heads the list. The Menorca executive of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party made the proposal on Wednesday, 14 October, and its island committee backed it that afternoon. Pons is deputy spokesman for the socialist group in the Balearic parliament.
The island committee pointed to his experience in the Spanish government. Pons was chief of staff to Teresa Ribera, the minister for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge. The committee said that made him well placed to bring Menorca’s concerns to Congress.
Pons thanked the party for its trust and said the general election would be decisive for the future. He argued for strong public services that protect equal opportunities, rather than privatising healthcare or education.
Another Menorca candidate, Enric Mas, is set to take sixth place on the list, while Maria Àngels Pons will be the first substitute. The PSOE’s federal committee is due to give the full list final approval on Saturday.
