Mallorca football fans and players are being brought into a new drive to protect the Mediterranean. The Fundación Real Mallorca presented its programme, La nostra mar. Defensant la Mediterrània, at Estadio Mallorca Son Moix in Palma on Wednesday, 2 September. Marga Prohens, president of the Govern, closed the event.

The foundation says the scheme involves players, supporters and the wider Mallorca community in protecting the sea.

Prohens said the project fits with the Govern’s Marine Conservation Plan, developed through talks with the fishing and nautical sectors as well as conservation and environmental groups.

“The sea can only be protected if we all do it together,” she said after the event. She described conservation as a shared responsibility and an investment in the future, adding that a sustainable blue economy cannot exist without healthy ecosystems and biodiversity.

Ana Torres, the Govern’s director general for natural and forestry environmental management, attended the presentation alongside RCD Mallorca president Andy Kohlberg and the club’s corporate executive director, Alfonso Díaz.
