Menorca Airport storm brings 121 km/h wind gust

A storm swept across the Balearic Islands overnight and into the early hours of 21 August, producing a 121 km/h wind gust at Menorca Airport on Menorca, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The airport recorded 13 litres of rain, while intense showers reached up to seven litres per square metre in 10 minutes and temperatures fell by nearly 10 degrees.

Menorca Airport also registered further gusts above 90 km/h, while Es Mercadal on Menorca recorded 85 km/h.

On Mallorca, Porreres recorded a gust of 99 km/h and 11 litres of rain. Cabrera registered winds of 95 km/h.

Gusts of between 70 and 76 km/h were measured in Son Servera, Manacor, Llucmajor and the port of Sóller, all on Mallorca. Sant Antoni recorded eight litres of rain.
