Palma's 300-space car park still stuck in paperwork

In Palma, Mallorca, a planned 300-space car park on Camí de les Meravelles remains on paper: the project is recorded as zero per cent implemented. Balearic tourism minister Jaume Bauzá gave the figure in parliament on Thursday, 15 October 2026. Work is expected to start in early 2027.

Technical problems delay the car park

The car park has a budget of around €2 million from the sustainable tourism tax. Bauzá said technical difficulties had pushed its deadline back by a year, to August 2027.

He expects Palma City Council to issue favourable reports by the end of this year. The city government could then approve the project and put the building work out to tender.

Menorca inspections are still in the administrative phase

In the same parliamentary session, Bauzá faced questions about €1.8 million allocated to tackle illegal holiday accommodation on Menorca. The project is recorded as 4.6 per cent implemented, which he attributed to administrative work still under way. He expects that figure to reach 50 to 60 per cent by the end of the year.

Socialist MP Llorenç Pou asked how many inspectors Menorca's island council had hired with the money. Bauzá said inspectors had been hired but he did not know how many. Several technological tools intended to support the inspections are being put out to tender or prepared for tender.

Two more tourism projects await progress

The first phase of a tourism-sector training plan, worth around €350,000, is 42 per cent implemented. A second phase worth €3 million is due to start between the end of this year and next year.

A separate tourism innovation and circularity scheme has €5 million available after its funding was cut. Projects worth €6 million have been submitted. Bauzá expects a decision in one or two months.
