Mallorca: Inca's mental health writing contest returns

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

Mallorca’s young people in Inca can write about mental health in a story of no more than 750 characters. Inca Town Council and Fundació Es Garrover presented the third edition of their contest, Contes des de l'ànima, on 6 October, ahead of World Mental Health Day on 10 October. Nearly 200 young people took part across its first two years.

The contest is open to 12- to 30-year-olds who are registered in Inca or attend school there. It has three age groups: 12 to 14, 15 to 18 and 19 to 30. Entries must be original, unpublished short stories in Catalan. Each person enters individually, and stories created with artificial intelligence are not allowed.

The organisers want to hear what worries young people, how they feel and how they experience mental health. Gori Molina, manager of Fundació Es Garrover, said a story can help someone find words for feelings that are hard to explain — and begin to talk about them.
