Eight migrants arrive by boat on Formentera in the Balearic Islands: the Spanish Civil Guard finds them at Los Arenales beach at 19.15 on Friday, 16 October. The Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands says they are of Maghrebi origin.
It is the second boat to reach the Balearic Islands that Friday. At 03.05, 21 people from sub-Saharan Africa are rescued five miles south-east of Cabrera. An Europa Press tally, based on figures from the Government Delegation and Spain’s Ministry of the Interior, puts arrivals since the start of the year at 6,770 migrants in 374 boats.
