Mallorca-bound boat with 29 migrants missing at sea
A boat carrying 29 migrants towards Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, is missing after leaving the coast of Boumerdés on Sunday. Alarm Phone reported the disappearance on 14 October. There has been no news of those on board since they set off, and their families have told the organisation they are worried.
The maritime rescue service, Salvamento Marítimo, has been alerted, according to Alarm Phone. The organisation did not say who raised the alarm.
It is the third missing boat reported this week. On Monday, Alarm Phone reported two others that had set off on 4 and 6 October with 17 and six people aboard, respectively. Salvamento Marítimo searched for those boats from the air south of the Balearic Islands but did not find them.
Meanwhile, 132 migrants have reached the coasts of Mallorca, Eivissa and Formentera in nine boats this week, according to the Spanish government’s delegation in the Balearic Islands. A tally by Europa Press, which also includes Interior Ministry figures, puts arrivals so far this year at 6,673 people in 366 boats.
