56 migrants intercepted as four boats reach Mallorca

Authorities intercepted 56 migrants on Saturday, 5 September, after four boats reached Mallorca and Formentera. The largest group, 29 people of sub-Saharan origin, arrived at Illetes in Calvià, Mallorca, at 10.00 am.

The first boat was found along the coast of Cabrera at 7.00 am, carrying 12 people of Maghrebi origin. Half an hour later, four more people of Maghrebi origin were intercepted in the Cala Galiota area of Mallorca.

At 9.35 am, emergency crews rescued 11 people of Maghrebi origin from a boat around three miles south of Formentera.

The Provincial Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil, Maritime Rescue and the Command’s Citizen Security Unit took part in the operations, according to the Spanish Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands.
