Mallorca rejects child intake over €25m Ceuta aid

Mallorca's regional government says it cannot take in migrant children assigned through a redistribution scheme, despite backing €25 million in aid for Ceuta. Families Minister Sandra Fernández restated the position in Palma on 27 August after joining the Sectoral Conference on Childhood and Adolescence by video link. The Balearic government considers the funding for migrant children in Ceuta insufficient.

The meeting had a single item on its agenda: the aid package for Ceuta. The regions attending approved it unanimously, while Aragón, Extremadura and Castilla y León did not take part.

Fernández also repeated a call from the Balearics and other regions for all migrants to be returned. For minors, she said each case should be examined individually and, where possible, families should be reunited in their country of origin.
