173 migrant children leave Ceuta for other regions
173 migrant children from Spain’s autonomous city of Ceuta are now in other regions, while its protection system looks after 2,827 children. Spain’s Minister for Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, gave the figures on 8 October after a meeting of the Situation Committee. Another 86 children have joined family on the Spanish mainland, 17 more than the number recorded the previous Tuesday.
Children still in Ceuta’s care
After receiving legal representation, 200 children have had an initial assessment. Authorities have also sent 24 case files to Morocco to assess whether those children can be reunited with family there.
Torres said children identified during operations such as the one at Trampolín beach cannot stay in facilities shared with adults. Once registered, they must move into accommodation provided by Ceuta’s authorities.
Trampolín camp cleared
The camp at Trampolín beach has been cleared ahead of the planned 15 October deadline. Torres said 11,026 adult migrants have returned to Morocco: 10,513 voluntarily and 513 through expulsion. Authorities have carried out initial assessments of 4,039 adults.
More than 7,000 places are available across 10 reception facilities. Torres said the temporary facilities would be taken down when they are no longer needed.
