Formentera boat search: migrant missing after jump

A migrant is missing off Formentera after at least two people jumped from a boat before rescuers arrived on Tuesday. The Civil Guard and Maritime Rescue are searching at sea and on land. At 07.10, emergency crews rescued 19 people of sub-Saharan origin two miles south of La Mola on Formentera.

The Balearic Islands Government Delegation said the two or more people had entered the water before Maritime Rescue reached the boat. One was later found at the La Savina pier, taking the number rescued or found in the operation to 20. The other remains missing.

Another boat found near Cabrera

Earlier on Tuesday, at 04.23, emergency crews found another boat in the Illes Bledes area of Cabrera. It was carrying 24 people of sub-Saharan origin.

4,789 arrivals so far this year

A Europa Press count based on Interior Ministry and Government Delegation figures puts the number of migrants reaching the Balearic Islands this year at 4,789, aboard 253 boats. Of those, 192 arrived on Monday and Tuesday, following 93 arrivals over the previous weekend.
