Menorca mini-tsunami alert: sea swings over one metre

Mallorca may see light afternoon showers on Thursday, while Menorca is under an orange alert for a mini-tsunami that could make the sea swing by more than one metre.

The State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, says the Balearics are still affected by rissagas, the local term for these sudden sea-level oscillations. Thursday night will also stay very warm across many parts of the islands, with tropical nights and torrid conditions in many areas of the Balearics.

The alert for rissagas remains in place across the Balearics on Friday. Light showers are again possible on Mallorca and elsewhere in the islands, while daytime temperatures fall. Even so, Mallorca could still top 35ºC in isolated spots, and nights are expected to remain warm.

Saturday brings a calmer forecast for Mallorca and the rest of the Balearics. Aemet expects mainly clear or lightly clouded skies, with no rain forecast. Maximum temperatures will rise again, while minimum temperatures on the islands are set to drop.
