Mallorca e-scooter hits 103.2 km/h in police test
Palma, Mallorca: a modified e-scooter hits 103.2 km/h in a police test after officers spot its owner on Sant Miquel street on 23 September. At about 10am, he is pushing it through the pedestrian zone with a helmet on. A foot patrol notices that the scooter looks altered. Days later, a test confirms it can exceed the legal 25 km/h limit more than fourfold, Palma Local Police say.
The man initially challenges the officers and questions their knowledge of the rules, according to police. When a second patrol arrives, he admits modifying the scooter himself. He says he fitted two 1,000 W batteries to bring it to 2,000 W, up from its original 800 W, and could remove the speed limit through its settings at any time.
Officers file an administrative complaint and order the scooter held because it has no authorisation for road use. Specialists from the Palma Local Police Motorised Unit later test it on rollers at the Son Toells depot. The 103.2 km/h result means it is permanently taken off public roads.
