Palma police arrest 46-year-old over motorhome takeover

Police arrested a 46-year-old woman in Palma on 25 August after finding her changing the lock on a motorhome used by a family as a weekend second home.

A patrol from the USEI, the Integral Security Unit, was sent to an empty plot in Carrer de Bartomeu Sureda i Miserol at about 20.00 after a caller reported a woman shouting in the street. Another person at the scene pointed officers towards the motorhome.

Police said they found the woman replacing the lock on its entrance door. She told them the vehicle belonged to her father, had been left open and had not been forced, but officers described her account as inconsistent.

The patrol found a broken window and damage to the entrance door, then contacted the motorhome’s legal owner. The 45-year-old arrived minutes later and told officers he did not know the woman.

He said the fully furnished vehicle, with a kitchen, bathroom and beds, was used by his family at weekends. The owner and nearby neighbours said the woman had apparently been going in and out of it for a week.

A joint inspection found two side windows damaged, the roof hatch completely dislodged and the locks unusable. The owner also reported two tool cases, a hand-held vacuum cleaner and a television missing.

The woman was handed over to the National Police for court proceedings.
