Palma murder: man guilty of stabbing ex 66 times
In Palma, Mallorca, a jury finds a man guilty of murdering his former partner with up to 66 knife wounds while their baby sat in the back of the car. The attack happened on 10 December 2024 on the Camino de Can Pastilla. The jury delivered its verdict on 9 October 2026; the court has not yet passed sentence.
A protection order was in force
The couple had gone to collect their daughter from nursery, despite a protection order against the man. The jury found that he suddenly pulled a knife from his clothing and attacked María del Rosario as he drove. She died shortly afterwards. An autopsy found that wounds to her neck and lungs caused massive blood loss.
The jurors found that he had used the confined space of the car to leave her no chance to defend herself. They concluded that he killed her because she was a woman and in a relationship marked by his control over her. They rejected the suggestion that drug use had governed his actions.
Baby hurt in crash after attack
The man drove on with María del Rosario’s body in the car, then caused a crash that injured their baby. Police arrested him shortly afterwards.
Prosecutors and the other parties bringing the case want a 25-year prison term for murder, plus one year for injury and another for breaching a court order. They have also asked to extend his pre-trial detention beyond 11 December 2026. The court has yet to decide on either the sentence or that request.
