The move forms part of the hotel group’s expansion in North Africa and the Middle East. José Canals, Barceló’s operations director for the region, said the new hotel strengthens the company’s presence in a strategic market.

The hotel has contemporary rooms, a spa area, wellness centre and gym. It also has an events room for up to 60 people, an international restaurant and three bars. Its rooftop terrace looks across the monumental complex at Giza.

Barceló has included the opening in its Barceló ReGen sustainability programme. The company says its activity in Egypt is linked to 1,876 direct and indirect jobs, while 70% of its suppliers are nearby local businesses.
