Fares rise, but Palma leads

The average ticket costs 166.50 euros, up 23.3% from a year earlier. Short-haul fares have risen by an average of 23.6%, while medium-haul fares are up 24.2%.

Palma leads the city list ahead of Rome and Ibiza. Spain is the most-booked country, followed by Italy, the United Kingdom, France and Portugal. Spanish customers have booked flights to 53 countries in all.

Valencia records the sharpest rise

Among the main departure airports, Valencia has the biggest increase in passenger numbers, up 231.5% year on year. Its regional holiday on 9 October gives people there a four-day weekend. Palma is among the leading destinations for flights from Valencia, alongside Seville, Rome, Budapest and Milan.

The figures may rise further before travellers depart.
