Mallorca: 10 young forest trainees paid to clear paths
Mallorca: Ten young people earn wages clearing scrub and maintaining paths at the public Galatzó estate in Calvià. They began training in January and are due to finish in three months with a professional certificate. Under their paid work-and-study contracts, they spend half their time on the job and half in the classroom.
Their work also includes maintaining green spaces. The Calvià Training and Employment Institute runs the scheme for the Balearic Islands Employment Service (SOIB). Each trainee has an individual plan to help them find work.
The programme is for people aged 16 to 29. Those who complete it will have a year’s work experience and a certificate linked to the care and improvement of woodland. SOIB funds the training, with support from the European Union’s European Social Fund Plus.
