Mallorca airport: MPs seek better links and parking deals
Mallorca’s Palma airport is at the centre of a push for public transport that fits workers’ hours and a review of parking charges. On 8 October 2026, the Balearic Parliament backed a proposal urging Spain’s government and airport operator Aena to improve access to the airports at Palma, Menorca and Ibiza.
Better journeys, without more passengers
The plan would give public transport priority, with services timed to suit airport staff. It also calls for better use of existing parking spaces. Changes to roads and car parks must not be used to increase the airports’ passenger capacity, the parliament says.
MPs want parking and access charges reviewed so that workers, residents, transport operators and businesses that regularly use the airports do not face disproportionate costs. They also seek discounts or preferential rates for airport staff, passenger transport companies and other businesses whose work depends directly on the airports.
A say in airport decisions
The parliament wants progress on a proposed law that would give Balearic institutions a role in managing the airports. It says plans for building work, investment, access changes or new charges should first be examined with those institutions and affected businesses.
Almost every committee member backed the calls on transport and local involvement; the Vox representative did not. The calls to review charges and recognise the islands’ particular needs passed unanimously. The vote sets out what MPs want, but gives no date for changes at Palma airport.
