Seven bookshops: Palma Catalan Book Week opens

Seven bookshops will bring Palma’s Catalan Book Week to the Misericòrdia gardens from 24 to 27 September. The 37th Setmana del Llibre en Català will also feature Mallorcan publishers. It is organised by the Gremi de Llibreters de Mallorca, the island’s booksellers’ association.

The opening takes place on Thursday 24 September at 18.30, with an address and a concert. Organisers say the full programme will be announced shortly.

The event’s new poster starts with the statue of Mallorcan writer Josep Maria Llompart, installed a few months ago in Palma’s Oms street. Design studio Estudi Randa and illustrator Clara-Iris place Llompart on a long bench made into a senyera, alongside writers including Mercè Rodoreda, Miquel Àngel Riera, Vicent Andrés Estellés and Maria Antònia Oliver.

Children’s storytelling sessions and book launches follow in the following days. There will also be a tribute to Biel Mesquida, led by Sebastià Perelló and featuring Kika Pol and Mesquida himself.
