Palma drug raid: cash burned in bathroom

Cash and notebook notes were allegedly burned in a bathroom as police raided two suspected drug-selling flats in La Soledad, Palma. Two men were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking on 3 September. Police say drugs were being sold from the addresses 24 hours a day.

The National Police said the only entrances were armoured doors fitted with several reinforced iron bolts. Officers from the Prevention and Response Unit and the Technical Intervention Operations Group forced their way in, quickly but with difficulty.

Inside one flat, police found a man in the bathroom who was allegedly trying to get rid of drugs through a drain built for that purpose. Investigators said the drain was linked to a water tank holding many litres and had a tap that could rapidly flush away substances.

The same flat had two cameras linked to two screens showing the street, which police believe were used to spot officers approaching. The search uncovered marijuana, hashish, cash, scales and other equipment allegedly used to sell drugs.
