Palma police arrest man over five night-time break-ins

A stolen-card payment at a restaurant on Calle Aragón in Palma ended with two arrests on Monday. One of the men was wanted over five alleged night-time break-ins and for breaching a restraining order at one of the premises, Spanish National Police said. Officers found him hiding in a building entrance and located the other man in a nearby bar.

Break-ins across four Palma neighbourhoods

The five alleged break-ins targeted a medical centre, care facilities, a shopping centre and another business in Pere Garau, Son Gotleu, Son Cladera and the Estadio Balear neighbourhood.

Police said the entrances were forced open during the night. Two tablets were taken from a medical centre, while a set of keys disappeared from one care facility and a drinks and food vending machine from another. Various items were taken from the fifth premises.

The suspect had allegedly broken into one of the care facilities before, leading to the restraining order. Police had been unable to find him and circulated a wanted notice to other units.

Cards and tools seized after restaurant alert

Officers went to the Calle Aragón restaurant at about 14.20 on Monday while two men were being pursued after a stolen card was used there.

Police seized two cards in other people's names, screwdrivers, pliers, lock picks, chisels and other tools from the pair. The man wanted over the break-ins was arrested on that case and for breaching the restraining order; the second man was arrested on suspicion of fraud after allegedly paying with the stolen bank card.
