Mallorca: eight Palma football pitches get safety nets
Palma, Mallorca, has replaced 2,193 square metres of safety netting at eight municipal football pitches, including damaged mesh that posed a risk at Es Rafal. Palma City Council announced the completed work on Monday, 5 October. The Municipal Sports Institute (IME) has also improved watering systems at six pitches.
Damaged netting replaced at Es Rafal
At Es Rafal, the institute replaced 1,260 square metres of mesh and installed a new net at the back of the pitch, supported by steel posts and anchors. The work addresses risks caused by the old material’s deterioration.
Netting has also been renewed at Can Valero, Es Secar de la Real, Coll d'en Rabassa, Sant Jordi, La Victòria, Son Cladera and Miquel Nadal. The city says the work on pitch boundaries is now complete.
Sprinklers adjusted at six pitches
The institute checked and adjusted sprinklers at Es Secar de la Real, Es Molinar, Son Cladera, Son Fuster, Coll d'en Rabassa and Son Flor to spread water more efficiently.
It also used specialist machines to loosen and brush the rubber on artificial-turf pitches. The work airs the playing surface and is intended to help it last longer.
