Palma arrest over alleged cash taken from 20 invoices

Spain’s National Police arrested a man in Palma, Mallorca, last Thursday on suspicion of keeping cash paid against 20 invoices that should have gone to the company employing him. The alleged conduct caused losses of about €2,000, according to the firm’s manager.

The man worked as a sales representative, carrying out jobs and visiting the company’s customers. Police said he collected equipment from businesses and private homes for checks, then returned to reinstall it and requested payment for the work.

Customers allegedly paid in cash. In many cases, he is said to have charged amounts without VAT or rounded down the total, presenting this as a discount.

Several weeks later, the firm’s billing department contacted customers and issued invoices. Customers said they had already paid the sales representative in cash, prompting the company to review his client records.

The employee initially denied the allegation when informed by the manager, according to the complaint. Police later identified and arrested him on suspicion of an offence against property.
