Mallorca’s Palma Marathon tops 10,000 entries
In Palma, Mallorca, more than 10,000 runners are signed up for Sunday’s TUI Palma Marathon Mallorca. That is a record for the race’s 22nd edition, with around 1,000 more entries than last year.
The runners represent 72 nationalities. Palma City Council says 94% are from abroad and 48% are women. Mayor Jaime Martínez presented the event on Friday.
Three races start at Parc de la Mar
All three races set off from Parc de la Mar. The 10-kilometre race starts at 08.00 on Sunday; the 21-kilometre half marathon and 42-kilometre marathon follow five minutes later.
The runners’ expo opens on Friday and Saturday from 11.00 to 19.00. The programme also includes a Breakfast Run from 09.00 to 14.00 and 11 cheering points along the course.
Award recognises inclusive sport
At Friday’s presentation, Martínez gave the Golden Bib award, known as the Dorsal de Oro, to the Invencibles association. It adapts sporting activities so people with disabilities can take part.
Martínez also congratulated its founder, Nico Navarro, for work he has carried out for more than six years. He said the award would help bring that work to wider attention.
