Palma gets 4.1 million euros for water and waste
Palma, Mallorca, gets 4.1 million euros in 2026 to help pay for street cleaning, rubbish collection and drinking water. Mallorca’s island council approved the payment on Friday, 16 October, at a meeting chaired by Palma mayor Jaime Martínez. It is 1.6 million euros more than the council’s contribution in 2025.
Palma city council says the money will fund Emaya, the municipal company that also looks after public spaces, sewers and wastewater treatment.
The payment is part of a funding scheme that helps Palma cover the extra costs of being the Balearic Islands’ capital, including public services, infrastructure and city upkeep. The Balearic Islands government has approved at least 25 million euros for those costs in 2026. The island council’s contribution comes on top.
