Palma police drone unit made official after two years
In Palma, Mallorca, police drones provide real-time information from the air: on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, the city formally creates their unit. The Palma Local Police drone team has worked on a provisional basis since 2024, helping other officers with surveillance, checks and police and emergency operations.
A formal place in the police force
The unit, known as Udrop, will join the Public Safety Division as a specialist team providing technical and operational support, city government spokesperson Mercedes Celeste said. The city’s governing board also approved two police leadership posts in the External Relations and Press Department.
Repairs at Son Reus and plans for new homes
At the Son Reus Animal Protection Centre, the city plans to fit cage bars and doors that close vertically, and waterproof a room for animals that need to be isolated for health reasons. The work is expected to take eight weeks and cost more than €54,300. It is intended to improve safety, make the facilities more usable and keep them in good condition.
The board also approved setting up a compensation board for the Son Puigdorfila housing project. The decision follows the approval of the board’s rules and operating framework in March. Plans for the site allow up to 623 homes, including 320 with some form of protected status.
