Palma police union warns of gaps in public services
In Palma, Mallorca, staff shortages leave many local police services for the public uncovered or unable to run as they should, the union ATAP warns on 22 October 2026. It says the night shift is particularly short of officers and that poor staff planning puts road safety and public safety at risk.
Night shifts and weekends under pressure
ATAP says a fairer spread of shifts would put more officers on duty at weekends and help cover services for the public. It says the new councillor for public safety, Llorenç Bauzá, has yet to resolve the staffing and planning problems.
Dispute over pay and staffing
The union also says shifts and pay still differ between police units, affecting a large part of the force. Officers in practical training face unfair conditions, it says, with a period originally set at six months now lasting two years or more.
ATAP says temporary duty assignments continue to be extended despite rules it believes they breach. It also criticises Palma City Council for failing to hold a promised transfer competition before the summer, while several units remain short of staff.
