Pollença: €1.5m spending rule breach sparks alarm
Pollença Town Hall in Mallorca must urgently prepare a financial plan after a €1.5 million breach of the spending rule, the local PP says. The party says the 2025 budget settlement confirmed the gap. On Thursday, it demanded political accountability from the council's governing team.
PP spokesman David Alonso said the party's earlier warnings about the budget had proved justified. He blamed what he called years of poor financial management, including weak delivery of the 2024 budget, which he said threw the following year's financial flows out of balance.
PP alleges figures were withheld
The PP also accused the governing team of deliberately holding back the figures. Alonso said the data should have been public in March.
Those are allegations made by the opposition party, which says the delayed figures have left the council under severe pressure to act.
Investment cuts could follow
According to the PP, the full council may now have to approve restrictive measures to make up for the spending-rule breach. Those measures could freeze or cut priority investment.
The party says Pollença Town Hall would also face compulsory budget supervision by the Ministry of Finance for the current financial year and the one immediately after it. It says a five-month delay in processing the budget settlement leaves little time to write the adjustment plan, secure council approval and submit it within the legal deadline.
