Mallorca: Marratxí pottery school starts with kiln down

On Mallorca, the Pilar Sastre municipal pottery school in Marratxí starts the academic year with its kiln out of action. MÉS per Marratxí raised the problem in a statement on Friday, 9 October 2026. The party also accused the town’s PP and Vox government of missing a funding opportunity for pottery training.

Applications to the Balearic Employment Service (SOIB) for 2026 training and employment projects were open from 1 to 19 September 2025. MÉS says missing that window means a professional pottery certificate programme launched in the municipality will not continue this year. Its spokesperson, Aina Amengual, said the training had helped people find work and supported the future of the craft.

MÉS also says the council stopped making the Christmas video campaigns previously used to promote the Cerámica de Marratxí brand. Amengual wants the school’s kiln put to work, the professional training programmes restored and promotion of the pottery sector resumed.
