Mallorca’s first of three planned private healthcare protests is off: unions have cancelled the 14 October gathering outside Clínica Rotger in Palma, Mallorca, after employers offered to reopen talks.

UGT, CCOO, Satse and USAE announced their protest plans when negotiations over a collective agreement for private healthcare in the Balearic Islands stalled. The unions say employers then contacted the negotiating team and called a meeting for 16 October.

The unions want to see whether that meeting brings progress before deciding on the two remaining protests. Tere Sánchez, who leads UGT’s private healthcare branch in the Balearic Islands, said what happens next depends on the talks.

Gatherings are still planned for 21 October at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu and 28 October at Hospital Cruz Roja. The unions will review both after meeting the employers.
