Alaró police operation questioned after Sant Roc assault

The PSIB socialist group in Alaró, Mallorca, has called for an explanation of the police operation at the town’s Sant Roc festivities after an assault on a group of teenagers on 15 August. On Tuesday, 25 August, the group said it was also concerned about the future of Alaró Local Police.

According to the PSIB, only two officers were on duty when the assault occurred and no additional personnel had been requested from neighbouring municipalities.

Questions over police planning

The group questioned how Alaró Local Police had planned and organised security for the festivities, saying the lack of reinforcements was particularly worrying.

It said the assault took place in Plaza de la Vila, opposite Alaró Town Hall and a short distance from the Local Police premises. The PSIB cited a video shared on social media and other information that had emerged.

Support for those assaulted

The PSIB condemned the incident and expressed support for those who were assaulted during the municipal celebrations.

It said the home municipality of the suspected attackers, whether Alaró, Binissalem or elsewhere, did not alter its position. The group said violence had no place, age or justification, adding that many residents in Alaró know one another and that any family could be affected.
