Spain’s PSOE is weighing a joint left-wing list for the 29 November general election: it wants to take control of the Senate, where the People’s Party (PP) holds an absolute majority. The party’s headquarters in Madrid said on 9 October that it was considering its options for winning both the Senate and the Congress of Deputies. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced the early election on Monday.

The PSOE accuses the PP of misusing its Senate majority to launch inquiries into alleged corruption involving the Socialists, including the Koldo case. The PP summoned former minister José Luis Ábalos, his former adviser Koldo García and former senior PSOE official Santos Cerdán. It also called Sánchez to appear on 30 October 2025.

A joint list is not yet settled. The wider left has neither chosen a candidate nor agreed its alliances. Under the election timetable, the PSOE has until 16 October to decide whether to form a coalition.
