Palma backs €2m repairs for nine public housing blocks
Eighty flats in four Palma neighbourhoods are set to get renewed shared areas after the city council approved work on nine public housing buildings on Wednesday. The programme covers Sa Gerreria, Sa Calatrava, Es Jonquet and Puig de Sant Pere. It will run for 18 months and has a budget of nearly €2m.
Repairs planned across four neighbourhoods
Palma City Council has set aside a separate budget for each of the four neighbourhoods, according to deputy council spokesperson Llorenç Bauzá. The work is aimed at the communal parts of the buildings used by the 80 flats.
Establiments quarries set for city ownership
The council also agreed to bring the Establiments quarries into municipal ownership. Bauzá called this a neighbourhood demand that former Socialist mayor José Hila had backed.
The city will first establish what the quarries are worth before adding them to its assets. Bauzá did not rule out compulsory purchase, known as expropriation, as part of the plan, which could also contribute to the future metropolitan forest.
