Mallorca may top 35ºC as rain lingers until Friday

Mallorca could see temperatures above 35ºC on Thursday even as rain reaches the Balearic Islands, with weak showers still possible on Friday. Spain’s State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, issued the forecast on Wednesday. It says Mallorca may be one of the few places where the mercury passes 35ºC.

A low-pressure system moving east from north-west of the peninsula could bring rain to the Balearics on Thursday. While temperatures are set to fall sharply inland, they are expected to rise along Mediterranean coasts, including Mallorca.

By Friday, high pressure extending from the Azores should bring more settled weather to the Balearics. Some weak showers may remain, but rainfall is expected to ease. Maximum temperatures are due to drop across the islands, yet Mallorca could still be the only area apart from isolated low-lying parts of the south-east where readings exceed 35ºC.
