Mallorca red alert: three bus routes suspended

Mallorca’s red alert for rain and thunderstorms remains in force on Monday, 19 October 2026: three bus routes stop running, and rain brings down the outside roof of a tobacconist’s in Santa Ponça, Calvià, on Mallorca. The Directorate-General for Emergencies and the Interior keeps the same alert in place on Eivissa and Formentera. Across the Balearic Islands, emergency line 112 records 201 incidents from Saturday at 22.00 to Monday at 12.00.

Damage and disruption on Mallorca

Calvià council also reports displaced manhole covers on the Illetes promenade. In Son Maties, one boat is stranded and another is partly sunk. Bad weather has stopped bus route L101 between Puerto de Andratx and Palma, L102 between Peguera and Palma, and L202 between Esporles and Estellencs.

Of the 201 incidents, 27 are on Mallorca, 113 on Eivissa, 59 on Formentera and two on Menorca. Flooding in buildings and on roads accounts for many of the calls.

Rain is expected to return overnight

The heaviest rain overnight fell mainly at sea. On Monday morning, downpours on Eivissa and Formentera sent torrents over their banks and flooded buildings and roads. Emergency officials say the ground there is already saturated, raising the flood risk even if the next rain is lighter.

Spain’s state weather agency, Aemet, expects rain to continue across all four islands. After a relative lull in the afternoon, it forecasts heavier rain overnight and into Tuesday morning. The red alert remains in place on Mallorca, Eivissa and Formentera: emergency officials say it reflects conditions on the ground and risks to people, not just the weather forecast.
