300 rental homes planned for Magaluf and Peguera

Mallorca is set to get 300 new subsidised rental homes in Magaluf and Peguera. Calvià mayor Juan Antonio Amengual announced the plan on Thursday, saying the homes will be aimed at people registered in the municipality for no more than ten years.

The publicly subsidised homes, known locally as VPO, are planned for four publicly owned plots: two in Magaluf and two in Peguera. Amengual unveiled the scheme at the Rei en Jaume landing anniversary event at the Cruz de Santa Ponça.

Changes across Calvià

The mayor used the event to look back on three years leading Calvià Town Hall and said he wanted the municipality’s transformation to continue. He pointed to the completed revamp of Magaluf’s Paseo Marítimo Gabriel Escarrer Juliá, work under way on Peguera Boulevard and the modernisation of Avenida del Rei Jaume I in Santa Ponça.

The council is also buying and demolishing obsolete buildings to make room for green areas and parking. It has also flagged the future conversion of the Finca de la Torre de Torrenova into space for the public.

Rei en Jaume festivities begin

The ceremony marked the 797th anniversary of the Rei en Jaume landing and opened Calvià’s Rei en Jaume festivities. Carlos Fuentes delivered the opening address before local groups, associations and organisations took part in a floral offering.

Fuentes said the celebrations bring people together and stressed the historical importance of the landing in Calvià’s shared memory.
