Ten missed alarm calls and a smashed till in Valldemossa, Mallorca: a restaurant owner’s account is part of a trial that opens in Palma on Thursday, 15 October. Six defendants are accused of stealing cars and breaking into businesses across the island between January and February 2026. Prosecutors seek prison terms totalling up to 56 years.

The restaurant owner said she woke on 16 February to the missed calls. Security footage showed people entering the restaurant and taking the till, she told the court. When she arrived, she found the till, a card terminal and a chocolate-making machine damaged, with broken crockery on the floor.

Other business owners described losses. The owner of a kebab shop in Portocolom, Mallorca, said about €100 and soft drinks were taken. A restaurant owner in Port de Sóller, Mallorca, reported that about €300 and tablets were missing after the till was tampered with. A camper van owner is also seeking more than €1,300 in rental income she says she lost because the vehicle was damaged.

According to prosecutors, the defendants stole cars and used them to reach businesses they broke into, sometimes changing the number plates. The charges cover three car thefts and eight break-ins between 27 January and 16 February, as well as thefts from vehicles and the theft of a number plate.

The hearing is scheduled for Thursday and Friday. It began almost two hours late after one defendant initially refused to leave prison for court.
