Mallorca: Palma focus of €1.5 million Roma support plan
Palma, Mallorca, is a focus of a €1.5 million Balearic plan to help Roma people stay in education and find work. The Balearic government and Fundación Secretariado Gitano have signed an agreement covering 2026 to 2029. The government’s department for families and social welfare announced it on 14 October 2026.
Help with school and work
The plan offers individual routes into work, careers advice and training for young people. School support aims to prevent pupils from dropping out and help them continue their education. Women and young people will receive particular attention.
The help is aimed especially at Roma people facing unemployment, insecure work, poverty or discrimination, or otherwise at risk of social exclusion.
Why Palma is a focus
Community work and coordination between services will take priority in Palma neighbourhoods with larger Roma populations. Fundación Secretariado Gitano will work with community social services, Palma Activa, the Mallorcan Institute of Social Affairs, the Balearic Islands Employment Service and schools.
The European Social Fund Plus is co-funding the project. The Balearic government’s department for families and social welfare will contribute €458,600 over four years.
