Palma, Mallorca, opens its new s'Aigua Dolça swimming pool on 15 October: weekday afternoon swims start first, with lessons and gyms to follow. In this first stage, the pool is open for swimming without lessons Monday to Friday, from 16.30 to 21.30. Municipal sports subscribers can use it, while others can buy a single-entry ticket.

Palma City Council says the centre joins the nine facilities already included in its sports subscription and managed by the Municipal Sports Institute (IME).

Activities begin alongside swimming

The Activa't healthy-ageing programme also starts on 15 October. Linked to the Santa Catalina health centre, it runs on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10.30 to 11.30.

Nordic walking sessions are set for 15 and 23 October at 18.00, with six more planned for November and December. Warm-ups and stretches take place in the centre's rooms before and after the walks. The B@les programme begins on 3 November.

Lessons and gyms come later

The council is opening s'Aigua Dolça in three stages. In the second, it plans longer opening hours, swimming lessons for people over 15 and instructor-led activities. It has not given a date for that stage. The third will bring two gym rooms, reserved for subscribers.

The centre has a six-lane, 25-by-11-metre pool and a smaller, 3.28-by-11-metre learning pool. It also has ten changing rooms and a 182-square-metre sunbathing area. Construction cost almost €10.3 million, funded by Palma City Council, the Mallorca Island Council and European funds.

The council surveyed prospective users about their exercise habits and preferences. It says their answers will help shape the activities added as the centre opens more fully.
