Palma's Saridakis bridge: one month to publish traffic plan
Palma, Mallorca: traffic problems at the bridge on Joan Saridakis street prompt a demand for a published solution within a month. The Consell de Mallorca, the island council, made the call on Thursday, 8 October 2026, when it approved a motion from the Socialists in full. It wants its governing team to set out a suitable technical option, a cost estimate and a timetable for putting it into place.
Some parts of the motion won support from every political group. Others passed after an initial tie, with the vote of Fernando Rubio, the councillor responsible for territory, transport and infrastructure.
The council also wants a review of how bridges and other structures on Mallorca’s road network are inspected and maintained. It calls for particular attention to older structures and those over major roads.
For Palma’s Empresa Municipal de Transportes (EMT) shuttle, the motion seeks the return of a service at least every 30 minutes. It also calls for a study of route changes that could cut transfers and walking distances.
In a separate vote, the council partly approved a Socialist motion on its strategy against unwanted loneliness. The strategy was approved in March 2025, but the Socialists say it still has no budget or measures under way.
