Six psychologists are preparing to support pupils in Mallorca as the Balearic service extends to Years 5 and 6 of primary school this school year. On 1 September, the 11-member team met education officials to plan the rollout. Schools will request their help when a pupil needs rapid, specialist support.

Where the team will work

Mallorca has six of the psychologists, while Menorca has two and the Pitiusas have three. Neus Riera, the Director General for Early Childhood, Diversity and Educational Improvement, attended the meeting with representatives of the Institute for Coexistence and School Success, Convivèxit.

The service is designed to respond to the specific needs flagged by each school, rather than operating as a fixed programme in every centre.

Support moves into primary schools

The initiative began in secondary schools during the 2024-2025 academic year. The Education Ministry says psychologists have helped schools spot emotional difficulties early and start preventive action before they become more serious problems.

They have also enabled faster responses when pupils are vulnerable or experiencing emotional distress. The expansion now brings that support to the final years of primary education.
