Ibiza school plan gets status to speed up paperwork

A planned secondary school in Eivissa, Ibiza, now has a route to faster paperwork, with spending capped at €15.9 million. On Friday, 9 October, the Balearic Islands government gave the IES Can Cantó project strategic investment status. That lets it use a legal framework designed to speed up the handling of projects considered important to the region.

The school is planned to meet growing demand for secondary places in Eivissa. It would have 16 units for compulsory secondary education and six for upper-secondary study, known as bachillerato.

The site covers more than 11,000 square metres. It belongs to the municipality, is designated for education and has been handed over to the government for the project. Government spokesman Antoni Costa said the new status follows an earlier designation of the school as a project of regional interest.
