Palma: Madrid passengers surge 200% for Shakira residency

Passengers travelling from Palma de Mallorca to Madrid are up 200% on the same period last year as Shakira’s Madrid residency drives demand. The increase covers 16 September to 11 October, according to booking platform Kiwi.com. Menorca records an even steeper rise of 233.3%, while Ibiza is up 158%.

The figures put the Balearic Islands among the biggest sources of growth for Madrid-bound passengers. Across Spain, passenger numbers to the capital rise 104.7%, while confirmed bookings increase by 120.5%.

Menorca leads the island surge

Menorca has the largest increase among the Balearic and Canary Islands analysed by Kiwi.com. It is followed by Fuerteventura, up 218.8%, and Tenerife Norte, up 213.3%.

Palma de Mallorca comes next with its 200% rise, ahead of Ibiza and Lanzarote, where passenger numbers grow 135.5%. Growth is lower from mainland cities: Bilbao is up 60% and Málaga 44.7%.

Flight searches keep climbing

Confirmed bookings to Madrid across the data rise 83.9%, while searches for flights jump 134.4%. Kiwi.com says this points to continued interest in travelling to the capital for the residency.

In Spain, searches for Madrid flights increase 112.2%. Málaga posts the biggest rise at 161.4%, followed by Palma de Mallorca at 157.3%; Ibiza searches are up 56.8%.
