Mallorca shop raids: six people face trial at the Provincial Court in Palma, Mallorca, on Thursday, 15 October, over eight alleged shop break-ins. Prosecutors also accuse them of three car thefts during a series of offences between 27 January and 16 February. The trial is due to continue on Friday.

According to the prosecution, some of the accused drove stolen cars while others broke into shops with crowbars. In some cases, the cars were driven into shop windows. The accused allegedly changed number plates at times, and several of the suspected offences took place within hours of one another.

Many of the alleged offences were in Valldemossa, Mallorca; others were in Sóller, Campos, Deià, Santanyí and Portocolom. The charges also include thefts from vehicles, taking a number plate, document forgery and road safety offences. Prosecutors say some of the accused filmed themselves driving stolen cars recklessly and posted the videos on social media. They seek prison terms totalling up to 56 years for the six defendants.
