Mallorca sick leave: MPs debate pay and rights
In Palma, Mallorca, workers’ pay and rights during sick leave are on the agenda when the Balearic Parliament meets on Tuesday. The PSIB wants MPs to back its call for workers to take sick leave without losing either. The sitting begins at 10.00; Balearic president Marga Prohens will be in Brussels for the European Week of Regions and Cities.
PSIB spokesman Iago Negueruela says People’s Party leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo treats sick leave as absenteeism, while his party sees overload and overexertion. The PSIB proposal is non-binding. It seeks to oppose changes to sick-leave rules that the party says the People’s Party is proposing.
Housing and tourism also on the agenda
The PSIB plans to question the Balearic government about housing as many as five times. It also wants the Sustainability Pact to focus on curbing tourist overcrowding, saying the body overseeing the pact has yet to adopt a single measure aimed at doing so. MÉS per Mallorca will ask what the government is doing about speculation and the cost of living in the Balearics.
Airport, healthcare and schools
Unidas Podemos will bring a proposal concerning the control tower at Menorca Airport. Health minister Manuela García is due to report on overnight stays in Mallorca for patients and relatives from other islands, work on the former Verge del Toro hospital in Maó, and new health centres in Alaior and Ciutadella.
At the end of the sitting, MPs will vote on proposals that failed to win approval in committee. One, from MÉS per Mallorca, concerns climate control in schools.
