Mallorca solar park to match power use of 12,000 homes
Mallorca’s new solar park: work is under way in Santanyí, Mallorca, on two plants expected to generate as much electricity each year as 12,000 homes use. Endesa said on 15 October 2026 that construction had begun on Goleta and Xalana. Together, they will form the company’s largest solar park yet in the Balearic Islands.
Power and local investment
The plants will have a combined installed capacity of 23.95 megawatts. Endesa expects them to produce about 42 gigawatt-hours of electricity a year and says that output would avoid around 15,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
Endesa is investing €14.6 million in the project. It says residents, businesses and local organisations can take part in financing it, with €2.7 million expected from that route. More than 80 people are expected to work on the site at the busiest point of construction.
Robots, grazing and a 2027 opening
Workers are due to fit the panel supports in November, with solar panels expected to follow from mid-December. A robot will use suction cups to place panels on structures that can reach nearly three metres high.
Grazing on the land will continue under the same local farmer. Endesa also plans to plant carob trees. Specialists will monitor the building work to protect historic features on the site, including dry-stone walls that may be preserved or restored.
Endesa expects Goleta and Xalana to start operating in the second half of 2027.
