Son Bordoy protest over alleged threats and water cut

Residents of Son Bordoy, a neighbourhood in Palma, Mallorca, protested on Friday over alleged threats, pressure and a water cut linked to a planned housing development. The Mallorca Platform for People Affected by Mortgages (PAH) called the gathering on Camí de Son Antiquet in support of the residents. The protest targets developer Pryconsa, which plans to build homes on the land.

The PAH says Pryconsa entered the site by force and illegally on Tuesday, placing machinery on two plots. It also alleges that the company cut off essential services including water.

The platform says Pryconsa is invoking a supposed municipal order to hide problems with its construction timetable. It further accuses the developer of procedural fraud and of defying the judicial authorities.

According to the PAH, Pryconsa has sued the residents of the affected plots, but no final ruling has been issued. Until the court of first instance decides the case, the platform argues, the company has no right to enter Son Bordoy.

The residents say the developer knows they are in a vulnerable position but is putting profit before their rights. They have vowed to fight the move through both civil and criminal legal action.
